This is the short piece of a predominantly DC freeway, if you can call it that. I-295 ends at I-395 south of the U.S. Capitol. DC 295 continues northeast to the Maryland line on the other side of DC, where it becomes MD 201 (not 295) and then the federally maintained Baltimore-Washington Parkway, which is not signed as MD 295 until the beginning of state maintenance at MD 175.
