Runs concurrently with US 40 and I-68 on the National Freeway between Keysers Ridge and Grantsville. Before that, 219 ran with 40 along current US 40 Alternate. Likely candidate for highest average elevation and westernmost route in Maryland, passing closest to the state's highest point, Backbone Mountain.
